On mom’s birthday, her daughter is the one who receives a gift (The Kansas City Star)

For her 55th birthday, she has just one plan: a trip to the store to get Michael Jackson ’s “This Is It.” It doesn’t take much to make my mama happy. For the last decade, she has been fairly predictable. Every year she asks for the same thing, a gift card to Best Buy. Her health doesn’t allow her to work much beyond canning vegetables. So she likes to buy DVDs and video games.

A Higher Calling
